Why I started Club Carter Radio
On leaving traditional radio and what I wanted to do with the time I got back.
I spent years on Dutch radio — FunX, 3FM, 3voor12, VPRO — and loved every minute of it. Traditional radio taught me how to make a show: how to place a track, how to talk between songs, how to read a room you can't see.
But I also learned what you can't do on traditional radio: play whatever you actually want, for as long as you actually want, without a format clock telling you to wrap up before the 3 o'clock news.
Club Carter Radio is my answer to that. Every week, an hour of music I picked myself. No meetings, no playlist committee, no pre-cleared rotation. Just the thing I used to do at home in the evenings, anyway — now recorded, shared, and made into a show.
Thanks for listening.
